WHAT IS D&D?

Dungeons & Dragons is a roleplaying game about storytelling in worlds of swords and sorcery. Each player creates an adventurer (also called a character) and teams up with other adventurers (played by friends) who work together to explore mysterious locations, solve intricate puzzles, relate with other characters, battle fantastic monsters, and discover fabulous treasure. One player takes on the role of the Dungeon Master, the game’s lead storyteller and referee, and creates an adventure for the characters who navigate through its hazards and decide which paths to explore. There’s no winning and losing in D&D necessarily but if everyone has a good time and creates a memorable story together, everyone wins.

FAQ: Welcome

HOW DO YOU PLAY?

It's simply, really. The Dungeon Master describes an environment. Players describe what they want to do, often rolling a 20-sided die to determine the success or failure of their characters' actions, and the DM narrates the results. That's it! Infinite possibilities are improvisationally created by players, guided by the DM, and structured by the rules of the game.

IS IT FUN?

Totally! D&D has something for everyone – the thoughtful problem-solver, the charismatic socializer, the artistic storyteller, the competitive instigator, the theatrical entertainer, and more! Even if fantasy roleplaying isn’t your thing, it’s always fun sitting at the table with friends, telling stories, laughing, eating, and making memories together.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO PLAY?

All you need is 3-7 friends (preferably 12 and up), a DM, a table or coffee table (preferrably with snacks), a character sheet for each player, a set of dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, & d20), and something to write with. Then, you're ready to play!

DO I NEED TO KNOW ALL THE RULES?

Not necessarily. While acquiring a basic understanding of the basic rules comes personally recommended (as it can be helpful to the speed and immersion of the game), players are also welcome to learn on-the-fly as the adventure progresses. For an introduction to the basic rules or an essential overview of the rules in the Player's Handbook (details for purchase below), consider scheduling Basic Training or Hero Training before your adventure.

CAN I BRING MY OWN CHARACTER SHEET?

Yes! If you have created your character(s) according to the official 5th edition rules as written in the Player's Handbook, Volo's Guide to Monsters, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, etc at the level specified in your adventure's description, simply submit them to your DM at least one week before your adventure for approval, and you should be good to go!

I'VE BOOKED AN ADVENTURE! NOW WHAT?

Now you wait! Your DM will contact shortly to introduce himself and arrange any necessary details - location, character sheets, dice, any necessary training, etc. You can also prepare for your adventure (or not) by reviewing the basic rules online, familiarizing yourself with your character's unique skills and abilities, and/or getting your friends excited!
